At just 24 years old, Julián Retamal transformed his home garage into a thriving tile manufacturing business. What began as a family necessity has blossomed into a promising entrepreneurial venture that's changing his community.

Life teaches us that true success emerges from unwavering effort and determination. The ability to reinvent ourselves when facing challenges is forged through adversity and perfected over time.

In a constantly evolving world, those who overcome obstacles and discover opportunities within difficulties are the ones who achieve triumph and make a meaningful difference in their communities. This is the inspiring story of Julián Retamal, a young man from Esquel who carries forward a family legacy built on the foundation of hard work and progress.

At 24 years old, Julián was born and raised in Esquel as the youngest in his family. He grew up in a warm home environment filled with companionship, commitment, and responsibility. Today, life has guided him to pursue his own entrepreneurial path, manufacturing quality tiles through his business, Kumei Baldosas.

Since childhood, Julián was immersed in the construction world, working alongside his father. In an interview with La Voz De Chubut, the young entrepreneur shared how he learned the trade and evolved in the craft that now defines his professional journey.

'From an early age, I watched my father work tirelessly to achieve his goals and dreams,' Julián recalls. After completing his secondary education in 2020 and navigating the post-pandemic period, he began working in construction with his father. 'I have foundational knowledge related to this trade. Working in this field motivated me to start producing tiles.'

'A family friend taught me the craft—he showed me step by step how to use the molds and assemble the tiles,' he explains.

Julián manufactures cement tiles measuring 40 x 40 cm, continuously perfecting his process through hands-on experience. As he describes it, 'reaching a quality product wasn't easy; it was quite a journey with setbacks and obstacles, but I persevered until I created a strong, reliable tile.'

'I started making tiles about a year ago. From the beginning, my vision was to build a commercial enterprise for the Esquel community. This January, we officially began selling in Esquel and the surrounding areas,' he explains.

Julián recalls that his venture began out of necessity and to repurpose some molds his father had acquired years earlier. 'Through practice, I discovered that I genuinely love this work. It's not just something I do because I enjoy it, but also because work is essential—finding stable employment is challenging these days.'

Today, the young entrepreneur operates from a workspace in his home garage, where customers can view and purchase his products. 'This space, though spacious, is quickly becoming too small,' he notes with pride.

The tiles are crafted using cement, sand, and macro-fiber, creating durable, reliable materials. 'I feel deep pride and satisfaction in creating this product with my own hands and effort. Beyond the manufacturing process, the finished product brings me immense fulfillment. When I unmold the tiles and see the designs come to life, it's truly rewarding,' he expresses with genuine passion.

Julián's ambitions extend far beyond his current operation. He dreams of securing a larger workspace for comfortable production and establishing a more formal retail location to compete effectively in the market.

'In the future, I hope to expand my product line with innovative tile designs and new offerings—moisture-resistant panels, precast walls, beams, and more,' he projects confidently.

Julián Retamal's story demonstrates that with perseverance, dedication, and genuine passion for your work, it's possible to transform a simple idea into a thriving enterprise. From his garage workspace, this young entrepreneur from Esquel is not only building a sustainable livelihood but also innovating and creating products that reflect his talent and commitment to excellence.
